Starting in 2009:
Our goal is to donate books to the school’s library in the names of the students selected to be Ruegy’s Readers. The program will provide a monetary award of $5000.00 that will go directly to the needs of the library. Of this $5000.00, $750.00 shall be designated specifically for books for young readers. With the help of the library staff and teachers, we will put together a list of books that the school would like to add to its library. Each fall semester, two students per grade level will be selected to be a Ruegy’s Reader. Those students would then be able to choose any book from the compiled list to remain in the school’s library with their names attached to it. We would leave the selection criteria up to each individual teacher; however, we obviously would like the chosen criteria to be related to reading and a student’s overall performance. Three schools will be chosen each school year.
