Grey started playing football when he was eleven years old with a “Pee-wee” team in the Pop Warner league of Las Vegas. One year later, Grey was told he was too big to play Pop Warner and had to wait until high school to play again. Bishop Gorman High School was the place where Grey picked up football again, as well as track and field and wrestling. He was a three-time letter winner in football and track, and he enjoyed an undefeated senior season as a heavyweight wrestler. After high school, Grey was fortunate enough to attend and play football for Arizona State University on a full athletic scholarship. While there, Grey started for four years as an offensive lineman on a talented team whose successes included a Rose Bowl appearance to play for the National Title, a Sun Bowl appearance, and the chance to play against many other talented football teams.

By the end of his senior year, Grey had received first team All-Pac 10 honors, was a Walter Camp and Playboy All-American selection, and was one of 12 finalists for the Lombardi Award.
Grey’s NFL career began in 1999 when he was selected in the third round of the draft to play for the Miami Dolphins. He played in Miami for one year before moving on to play for the New England Patriots for three years; a tenure that included a Super Bowl win in 2001. As a free agent, Grey then signed with the Green Bay Packers and spent three years playing there with a playoff appearance each year. Grey is currently in his eighth year in the NFL and plays offensive line for the New York Giants.
